Cardigan Welsh Corgi Dogs: This one is the older breed out of the two Corgi breeds.



These dogs have a deep chest and are low-set. The Cardigan Welsh Corgi dog was used as a farm dog by the farmers of South Wales. Even now, this breed of dogs is a powerful companion.

Health: According to Cardigan Welsh Corgi information, these dogs have a lifespan of 12 to 14 years.



This breed can suffer from canine hip dysplasia (CHD) and degenerative myelopathy. They are also susceptible to urinary stones and progressive retinal atrophy (PRA).

Care: These dogs need a lot of exercise. While a good herding session will provide it with the kind of exercise it needs, you can take the dog for a long walk, or play a vigorous game.



It can spend time outdoors as well as inside the house. It can even live outside in temperate or cool weather conditions. If you have Cardigan Welsh Corgi puppies or dogs, then make sure that you brush it once a week to take out the dead hair.

Physical Characteristics: These dogs are friendly, and have an alert, watchful and gentle expression. They are low-set and moderately heavy-boned. While it may look small, the Corgi dogs are agile, fast in terms of speed and have a lot of endurance.

These powerful dogs can chase cattle for a long time. And their size suits them in their job – if the cattle kick the dogs, they can bend low under the hooves.
It has a free gait that helps it to run across a large area quite effortlessly. The dog has a double coat – the undercoat is soft and thick, while the outer coat is harsh and moderately long. Their coat is of a variety of colors that include blue merle, black, and red.

Personality: These tireless and tough dogs can play all through the day. These are well-behaved dogs, but tend to bark. Corgi dogs can be aggressive with unknown dogs and reserved with strangers. History and Background: This breed of dogs was brought to the British Isles from central Europe. They were first brought to Cardiganshire. The name Corgi comes from two words, "Cor" means to gather, while "Gi" means dog. So Corgi would mean a dog that gathers cattle.
