Australian Silky Terrier Dogs, Puppies, Information, Breeders, Grooming and Rescue

The Australian silky terrier dog is a loveable and small crossbred dog.

The Australian silky terrier breed was first developed in the early twentieth century by crossing an Australian terrier and the Yorkshire terrier. In North America, they are referred to as silky terriers. Australian Silky terriers are very small, only 8 to 9 inches in length, and they weigh 4 to 5 kg. However, despite their size, they are agile, energetic, and brave by nature.

Their life span is about 12 to 15 years.

As the name suggests, these dogs have a silky coat that shines and is smooth to touch. Australian silky terrier puppies look considerably cute and are loved by most kids, who enjoy playing with them. Since this is a cross-breed of Australian and Yorkshire terriers, these dogs possess the characteristics of both the parents.

Australian silky terrier breeders around the world continuously work on improving the overall traits of this breed by specialized cross-breeding.

Despite being so small in size, Australian silky terriers also prove to be great watchdogs as a result of their agility and alertness. This dog breed is capable of protecting the home of its owners. Further, they can be easily trained and can be socialized well. You can also teach them some playful tricks. They are easy-to-keep dogs as they are friendly with other pets and children at home. Further, they are also very sensitive to sounds and are easily frightened with loud noises. It is not uncommon for them to freeze upon hearing a shriek or a high pitched sound.
