The American Eskimo dog, also referred to as the Eskie at times, is a very common breed of dogs.



Contrary to its name, this breed is neither from Alaska, nor is it a descendant of the sled dogs used in Alaska, known as the Husky. Instead, the American Eskimo Dog is from Germany and is a descendant of the Spitz family of dogs, which is also from Germany. Hence, they bear a strong resemblance to the Japanese Spitz as well as the Samoyed dog.
