Basston - Information on the Dog Breed, Puppies, Temperament and Lifespan of Basston Dog

The Basston is a cross between the Boston Terrier and the Basset Hound and is therefore not a purebred dog.

These dogs have a fine short coat which is easy to maintain and therefore grooming is no big deal for owners of these dogs. Basstons also shed less and hence would be ideal pets for people who suffer from allergies.

Basston Puppies, Temperament and Lifespan

A Basston dog can be found in a mix of two colors usually a white with brown, chestnut or sand markings. An occasional bath and brushing is more than enough to maintain their coat and keep them looking healthy.

There are several sources of obtaining Basston breed information such as books, magazine and online resources which can help a person determine if this breed of dogs would suit their needs. A Basston is generally 12-16 inches tall and would weigh approximately 15-40 pounds.

One can find out about the temperament of this dog by studying the temperaments of the parenting breeds.

Basstons are generally very alert but also calm and gentle. Since both the parenting breeds, Basset Hounds and Boston Terrier have a good temperament, Basstons also make good family pets and tend to adapt well to children and other pets in the household. However, they can sometimes be stubborn and hence need to be trained well to avoid bad behavior.

Although a Basston dog breed doesn’t need too much exercise, moderate physical activity everyday combined with a good diet can help keep their weight in control. The Bassett Hound which is one of the parenting breeds has a tendency to gain weight quickly and hence this may also be a trait in the Basston. These dogs generally have a lifespan of 12-15 years. It is always better to purchase Basston puppies from a reliable breeder to ensure that they are purebred and have been well taken care of. For people who do not want to spend money on buying these puppies, adoption is the next best option. The best place to adopt Basston puppies would be from a rescue shelter or humane societies in your locality. Basston puppies for sale are priced depending on whether their parents are full blooded or mix breed themselves and also on the gender of the puppies. Female puppies usually cost lesser than male puppies. Basstons make ideal companions for families as well as single owners and can adjust in open spaces as well as in smaller apartments.
