Klein Poodle Dog Breed, Puppies, Colors, Information and Life Expectancy

The Klein Poodle has originated in France and as the name suggests, belongs to the Poodle family.

In France this breed is also known as the Moyen Poodle, which is the fourth size in poodles. In all other European countries, this poodle is known as Klein Poodle.

This dog is definitely a descendent of the French Water Dog but its origins are debated. Like all French poodles, this dog was also trained to retrieve waterfowl and sniff out truffles. Eventually the high intelligent quotient of this breed made it suitable for training for circus tricks.

This dog breed, when perfectly groomed, has a square appearance. It is as tall as it is long. It has a long straight muzzle on a moderately rounded skull. The ears, close to the head, are long and flat.

This dog’s size makes it a favorite as a pet in many homes in the US. Klein Poodle information sources reveal that the coat can be curly or corded and come in different colors like black, silver, gray, blue, apricot, red, white, brown, cream and coffee or café au lait colored. These dogs are between the miniature and standard poodle size. They weigh up to 30 pounds and can grow up to 20 inches. It has a life expectancy of 12 to 15 years. This breed also tends to have a long life but it is prone to health problems like cataract, progressive retinal atrophy, allergies and skin conditions, runny eyes and ear infections, epilepsy, diabetes, and heart disease.

Dogs of this breed are considered to be a delight to have around the house. It is a breed that aims to please the owners. They are also used as performing dogs in the circus as they have a propensity to be comical. They need, like all breeds, an adequate amount of exercise or they can get high strung and difficult to handle. These dogs do well in apartments too. A house with a fenced in yard is the best place to keep this dog in. These dogs will not live in a separate kennel. The Klein Poodle puppy must be trained early to establish who the master is. Sometimes the dog might lose track of who the master is and become irritable and difficult especially around children. Therefore it is important to train the Klein Poodle puppies early on. These dogs as pets are very friendly with other pets. These dogs love water and love playing water games. They love fetching from the water.
