Vegetarian dog food

Vegetarian Canine Food:

Dogs are basically carnivorous, but almost all dogs can survive even on a completely vegetarian diet, although this may not be completely healthy.

There are several different vegan foods that are available for your dogs. However, in recent times, there have been many complaints against commercially produced foods because of which most of these foods have been pulled back.

Homemade Vegan Dog Food:

Homemade vegetarian food not only provides your dog with many essential nutrients but is also free from contamination and chemical additives or any kind of artificial flavoring. Commercial non-vegetarian foods often have flour made from the bone and by products of animals.

These are harmful for the dogs as they contain indigestible proteins. Regular consumption of these foods can cause diarrhea and other stomach ailments. These can also often contain bacteria or diseased animal parts. Vegetarian foods promise to be free from these problems and therefore, are better for your pet, as compared to commercial non vegetarian foods.

They are however, nowhere close to as healthy as a homemade non-vegetarian diet. A homemade vegetarian diet is generally safe for your dog; however, observe your dog carefully when it is being fed a homemade diet. If you observe any changes in its coat or bowel movements, change the diet immediately. To make some healthy vegetarian food for dog, mix together two cups of oat flakes and half cup of wheat bran. Add to this half a cup of soy milk and one teaspoon each of wheat germ oil, sunflower seeds, and ground flax seeds. You can also add half a spoon of olive oil. Do bear in mind that soy milk is valuable for an essential nutrient group that lacks in vegetarian food – protein. At the same time please bear in mind that the health effects and risks of soy milk are still being investigated.

Healthy Vegetarian Diet for Canine:

Once you mix these ingredients together, you can bake them hard. After you have finished baking the mixture, break it into pieces or grind it, and store it in a glass jar. Later, whenever you want to use this food, you can simply add some hot water and make a broth.Another great vegetarian meal based on rice can be given. To prepare this, boil two cups of brown rice and add to it fried onions that have been finely ground. Heat some oil in a frying pan and put the cooked rice and onions in it. Add a teaspoon each of sesame oil and soy sauce, fry for a couple of minutes on a low flame and keep stirring.

This can be given in a single meal to your dog. You can make your own food for your dog too. Just make sure that the meal gives your dog 40% proteins, 50% carbohydrates and 10% fats. Also talk to your vet about the micronutrients required by your dog. You can either give these micronutrients separately or add them to the meal.
