Dehydrated dog diet

Dehydrated Canine Food:

There are several different types of commercial dog food available today.

However, dehydrated foods or dry foods are preferred against moist or canned foods. While moist foods are known to be more nutritious, they are also very expensive. Dehydrated foods or pellets can be bought in bulk and stored for a long period of time. Even though canning is a preservation technique in itself, if the can gets damaged while shipping or storing, it is possible for the moist food to get spoilt.

Therefore, more people prefer buying dried foods that have chemical preservatives.

Fortunately, there are many different types of dehydrated foods available. Some of these foods have fragments of dehydrated meats, bones, and flours of fish and meat. However, some of these flours contain indigestible proteins that can cause allergies and diarrhea. Though manufactured and processed foods do have their benefits, some of the products may contain certain ingredients that are not good for the health of the dog.

It is therefore better to buy dehydrated dog foods, which use standardized ingredients.
Dogs that are used to consuming foods that are homemade may not be able to digest commercial foods. Therefore, if you intend to feed your dog dehydrated foods, it is best to start at an early age, keeping the dog on a diet of a mix of processed foods and homemade food. In fact, you can even prepare dehydrated food at home using fresh ingredients.

Homemade Dehydrated Dog Diet:

Homemade dehydrated foods for dogs are better because they are made of fresh ingredients and are free of any preservatives and added chemicals. By making dehydrated foods at home, you can easily make sure that your dog remains safe from any dangerous ingredients that may be added to commercial foods. To make your own dehydrated dog food at home, get some chicken liver and cut it into small strips of ½ inches each. Now place these strips on a food dehydrator, dehydrating the food for about 6 to 8 hours. You can also cover the food and dry it in the sun; however, this could spoil the liver. Test the liver for any moisture that may have been left in it by squeezing it. If the liver has dried completely, put it aside. Now take a large bowl and mix in it 1/3 cup of melted butter, 1/3 cup water, and one medium egg. Blend these ingredients well and add about two cups of whole wheat into the mixture. Mix the dehydrated liver into the mixture. Keep stirring it to avoid forming any lumps. Bake the mixture and once ready, break it into several small pieces and store it.
