Dog Food Nutrition

There are several types of dog food in the market.

However, while choosing something for your pet, look for nutritional dog food. Here are some tips to help you choose the right food for your pet.

  • Just like you read labels of food that you’re choosing for your family, read the labels of the dog food while shopping for succor for your pet dog. Make sure that a package of food has all the important nutrients for dogs before you buy it.
  • You should also make sure that the dog food has meat in it.

It could be chicken, beef or lamp. And when we say meat, it does not include by-products like skin, beaks, eyes, feathers or hooves.
  • The food should be soy-free as several dogs are allergic to it and the allergy can cause dog breathing problems, skin problems and/or diarrhea.
  • Also, the first and major ingredient of the canned food should be meat. If you see more of water, then just don’t buy the product.
  • As a responsible pet owner you should be concerned about dog food nutrition.

Speak to vets and experts. It is likely that they will recommend dog food that has been made with human-grade meat, vegetables and whole grains. Don’t pack the meal with food items that do not have any nutritional benefits. Remember that while dogs can absorb a lot of the nutrients from potatoes and white rice, they won’t be able to absorb the nutrients from corn, wheat, flour and oats.
  • Experts say that glutens or food with a lot of gluten are not nutritious for dogs.
  • It is advisable to change the food that you give your dog periodically. Give them a mixture of canned food and dry dog food. You may also want to give your dogs freshly cooked dog food. Create a food plan that features a few types of good quality food products and alter them regularly. Speak to a vet while creating the food plan.
  • Whatever dog food you buy, should have the AAFCO certification. AAFCO stands for Association of American Feed Control Officials.
  • While good quality meat should be the main ingredient, the food product should also have grain sources that are whole grain instead of processed grains. So instead of wheat and corn, the product should have barley and rice.
  • Dog food should not have salt, spices and sugar.
  • Also, don’t table feed your dog. Don’t pass on pieces of what you’re eating to your pet as human food is not healthy for them.
