Positive Dog Training Advice

Training dogs can be one of the most enjoyable experiences you can have if you know how to train them the right way.

People might wonder how that is possible as the way we communicate is not comprehended by dogs. But this is possible and can be done by anyone by simply knowing few basic points.

Dog training methods are of two types where the traditional technique is known as the negative reinforcement method and the new technique is known as positive reinforcement dog training. The negative reinforcement method emphasizes on punishing the dog by hitting them for the wrong they do so that they do not repeat the same thing again.

On the other hand, positive reinforcement is exactly the opposite and there are a number of positive dog training methods as it is acquiring great importance because it believes in rewarding and praising dogs for the work done and actions performed rather than punishing them for the wrong that is done. Being patient, consistent and perfect with your rewarding time is the secret to successful dog training.

Positive dog training encourages appreciating the dog for listening to the master and rewarding them with something that they like. This could include a food treat, verbal appreciation, physical affection, giving them their favorite toy or a combination of one or more of these. If your dog loves the affection you show towards him, give him a nice belly rub as his reward. It is important that you treat your dog as soon as they obey a command that you have given them because if you delay this, the dog might get confused. This method is very beneficial as the dog knows that it is the correct behavior and thus, obeys it. Make sure you are consistent with the words and actions you do or else the dog might not know what you talking about. There are basic cues or commands like sit, stay, come and so on. If you tell your dog to sit and he obeys, you need to instantly show verbal appreciation telling him that he did a good thing followed by giving him his treat. Once your dog is listening to your command and obeying you consistently, you can stop giving the treats. Positive dog training is a fun way through which you can teach your dog to be obedient and maintain good behavior or they can be a great nuisance to you as well as those around.
