Electronic Dog Training

Electronic dog training equipment seems to be catching on in popularity.

However, there is a lot of controversy that surrounds the use of these equipments. Electronic collars, which were invented to make the training of dogs much simpler, have in fact only made training an extremely brutal and scary experience for your dog. Even though electronic dog collars have been widely criticized, there are pet owners who feel that electronic collars have made training their dogs extremely easy.

In fact, some dog owners believe that electronic collars can be used on both large and ‘hard’ dogs and even small and ‘soft’ dogs.

Often referred to as the ‘shock collar’, the electronic collar is a device, usually controlled by a remote control which can pass a small amount of current through the collar, giving the dog a small shock and deterring it from performing an act which is not desirable. The small shock is intended to be a negative reinforcement which causes the dog to deter from certain behaviors.

Using the electronic collar regularly for some time can help reinforce some behaviors. When the dog experiences a jolt of electricity on performing certain behaviors, it begins to associate these behaviors with an unpleasant experience and finally begin to refrain from repeating the behavior.

An electrified dog fence is similar equipment which can help you contain your dog to a specific perimeter. Like any other fence, the dog training electric fence can be installed around a perimeter. This fence is specifically useful for those dogs that are very aggressive and can attack anyone. These electronic dog training equipments, though easy to use, are not always the best alternative to training dogs manually. The traditional methods of training your pets are still preferred over these new electronic products. While the traditional training methods increase the bonding between the human and the pet, the same cannot be said about the electronic equipment.

Other than the discomfort experienced by the dog, some of the electrical training equipment may also hurt human beings and their pets. Take for instance an electric fence. A dog may get severely injured by such a fence. However, that’s not all that could happen. A small child in your home or an unknowing guest may also severely injure themselves by coming into close contact with such electrical equipment. Still there are many different conditions in which equipment like electronic collars can come in really handy.
