Vegetarian Dog Treats

Even though dogs are usually carnivores, vegetarian dog treats have also become a welcome treat.

If you are a vegetarian and would like your dog also to benefit from a vegetarian diet as well then you could plan your pet’s food with vegetarian homemade dog food and treats. The need for vegetarian dog treats can be due to your pet’s health reasons or special health needs or some types of allergies also. One of the major benefits of making your own dog food and treats is that you can keep a check on the quality of what goes into it and will be able to maintain a list of foods that your dog may be allergic to.

You could also use the same products that you use at home to make these dog treats, this will not lead to any extra expenses. Vegan dog treats are the same since they do not carry any kind of meat or dairy products in them. There are some vegetarian dog food recipes that you could try which are both easy and equally healthy.

Foods with carrots and sweet potato are good as they are very rich in Vitamin A. One simple recipe can be prepared by mixing 1 cup of oats, ½ a cup of soy milk or toned milk, ¼ cup of wheat bran and 1 teaspoon of olive oil or sesame oil. Grind 1 teaspoon of sunflower seed, 1 spoon of wheat germ and 1 spoon of flax seeds and add it to the mixture that you prepared earlier.

Mix all of them together thoroughly. And add some hot water to this meal that you want to serve and soak it for 10 to 15 minutes and then when it is cool enough you can feed your dog. You can also double the portion if you have young growing dog. You can also make this in large quantities and divide it into the right serving portion and freeze them to use it whenever you need. This same recipe can also be substituted with cooked rice. If your dog gets bored with the oats mixture after a few days you could switch to rice and switch back after sometime. If you are part of a dog lovers club you could also ask around and gather more information on vegetarian dog treats and recipes. Do keep in mind that your dog’s diet shouldn’t consist solely of vegetarian foods as this is not only unnatural, but also unhealthy for dogs.
